What does Mallorca conjour up for you? Is it nightlife, hen and stag parties, influenced too much by bad press? Or is it tranquil beaches, the sea lapping outside your window at night lulling you asleep?
I’ve just spent 5 nights here, staying in the Marina hotel which is separated from the beach by a promenade full of happy holiday makers eating and drinking. The resortis mainly traffic free (occasionally you’ll see a taxi, but more often than not, you’ll see the tram running between Soller, nestling in the hills a few miles away from ‘Puerto’ the port/resort).
Going outside of school holidays as I did, the majority of visitors were either older without children, or young families, their children happily running in and out of the waves. Then as the sun dips down, the restaurants start filling up and the gentle sound of chatter, punctuated by live singers in the background, echoes around the resort.
The road to Palma either takes you through a tunnel (€4.95 for a car each way), or up and over the mountain. (If you don’t want to drive then you can take the tram to Soller and from their take Mallorca’s railway to Palma)
