I was privalaged to stay at the Relais La Corte Dei Papi in April 2016 whilst on a familiarization trip to Tuscany. The hotel is a small family run boutique hotel. Set within it's own olive groves and vineyards (they make just enough wine to serve to hotel guests - and very good it is too!!). An original 17th Century family home that has been lovingly restored. Situated close to Cortona - The hill top town that was made famous by the novelist Frances Mayer in her novel 'Under The Tuscan Sun'.
The rooms are spectacular. Standard rooms are within the main building whilst within the gardens are the 2 cottages and the Spa Suites. I stayed in a spa suite (pictured right). Large, with terrace or balcony. Each room has a jacuzzi and a seperate shower for 2 that incorporates for 2 a steam room provided with 4 multi-sensory showers with aromatherapy, chromotherapy and music therapy, with the chance of choosing 4 different sensory paths. I just wish I had been able to stay longer than the 2 nights I was there!
One of the Exclusive Spa Suites is a two-floor room: at ground floor level there is the private spa and a big Jacuzzi for 2 people, a relax corner with a sitting room and a private garden. On the first floor there is the bedroom with a big poster bed.
The restaurant is in the old cellar of the country house. A romantic area, characterized by tone walls, a timber roof and terracotta floors. The menu offers a wide selection of Tuscan specialities together with modern and gourmet dishes. The chef and his staff personally prepare all the dishes, including bread, pasta and desserts, as well as the products of the breakfast, such as cakes, home-made pies and fruit marmalades.
Each recipe is perfected with the quality and freshness of its ingredients, and the elegant presentation of the plate by the friendly service. In summertime the restaurant is moved near the swimming pool, surrounded by an expansive park, full of flowers and pines, from which you can enjoy the quiet and the magic atmosphere of the Tuscan countryside.
While staying at Relais la Corte dei Papi, guests have the pleasure to enjoy its exclusive services; from cooking classes, wine tastings and wine tours with private driver, to exclusive luxury tours in a Ferrari or Maserati! The cooking classes are great - I got to eat the pasta I made (yes fresh pasta from scratch without any machines or rollers) and, despite of the jokes, I thought it tasted pretty good! What a location to hold the wedding of your dreams. The hotel has recently added a function room so you can do just that - and what better than a late spring wedding with Tuscan weather! This is one of those very special places to spend an unforgettable and incredibly romantic holiday in Tuscany. Lying under the Tuscan sun in Cortona, the location itself is so convenient, as the Relais is set upon the magnificent hills all surrounding the medieval hill town of Cortona, one of the most beautiful and romantic villages of Tuscany and Italy, and the one with the most wonderful panorama.
Being on the border between Tuscany and Umbria, Cortona boasts a strategic location that makes it the perfect base to explore some of the best sights of Italy: Florence, Siena, Arezzo, Montepulciano, the Val d’Orcia and its lovely hill towns, the wonderful Trasimeno Lake, Perugia, and many other hidden gems.
I drove - an easy drive if you have the time.
Alternatively fly to Florence or Rome and hire a car or we can arrange a transfer (hire car is recomended due to the location).
Do it in Style and take one of our Ferrari Fly Drive packages.
We feature the property with a number of specialist tour operators as well.
