An ‘Occupy Portland’ protest is expected in downtown Portland on Thursday afternoon and police have warned that is could disrupt traffic. The anti-Wall Street protest is to take place from noon at Waterfront Park with a march to follow. A large group is expected to protest.
Background:
Anti-Wall Street protests are reported to have spread across America on Wednesday, with demonstrations taking place from Los Angeles to Boston. Activists in New York have been camping in Zucotti Park, Manhattan, for three weeks now sparking a wave of similar protests across the country.
People have taken to the streets in Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago and Florida, with some claiming demonstrations may even spread to other countries.
Organiser Kevin Zeese said economic insecurity was probably the inspiration for people to take to the streets as some media sources claim unions may also join in future marches.
Although the protests have on the whole been peaceful, police attempting to move demonstrators along on Saturday were forced to arrest hundreds however no injuries were reported.
This appears to be a developing protest.
